Sour Mash to play Drakes

By John Siddle on Oct 17, 08 12:56 PM

Popular rockers Sour Mash will be the first band to play new bar Drakes this Thursday (Oct 24).

The West St nightspot, which was formerly DBs, opens on Saturday, with live music every Thursday night.

Joining Sour Mash on the bill are The Incidentals.

A POPULAR Southport indie club refurbished by the design team responsible for creating Liverpool celebrity hangout Korova is to open tonight (Friday).

Apres, formerly The Underground on West Street, will open its doors after a four week-long revamp.

Revellers will be greeted with an Alpine bierkellar theme, featuring a new floor with wooden seats, wooden walls and mountainous wallpaper.

Owners of the bar, which opened three years ago, insist they will continue with the same "open-minded" music policy.

Apres opens at 10pm-3am, with Cardiff band Bedroom Revolution providing the live sounds.

Festival of Music set to start

The Arts Centre will play host to a wide range of talented musicians, singers and actors when the Southport Music Festival starts on Sunday.

Southport rockers Doal Drummer have made the last 50 of the Orange Unsigned competition, beating off 7000 other bands.

The band (Chris Struthers, Dean Shaw, Jacob Maxwell and Paul Edwards) have gone from strength to strength since playing their first gig at the resort's now-defunct Underground club on West Street and were recently filmed by Sky at their rehearsals.

Doal Drummer will play Leeds Uni this Sunday in an attempt to make the final 16 - but they will have to impress Alex James of Blur and TV host Lauren Laverne.
