AN UPCOMING Southport band are set to take the stage by storm in aid of a local diabetes charity.
Dominant Species are performing at the monthly Rock Night at the Grandstand Bar, Haig Avenue on Friday, 22 February at 6.30pm.
All proceeds from the event are going to the Southport, Formby and Ormskirk Diabetic Children’s Club, a cause close to heart of the group.
Kerrie Hopson, 13, sister of Dominant Species drummer Lewis Hopson, 15, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes nine years ago.
Andy Hopson, father of Lewis and Kerrie, said: “The band were keen to raise funds for this charity as Kerrie suffers from diabetes. All the money raised will be used to fund things like educational holidays for diabetic children, purchasing new clinical equipment and diabetes
research.
Lucy Kirwen, 14, Christian Wilbraham and Caleb Robinson, both 15, complete the indie band, who have been together for almost two years.
The band have won the Haig Avenue Battle of the Bands competition in
October, and have performed twice previously at the monthly Rock Night, which they host and co-run with Trust In Yellow Community Liaison Officer, Paul Glendenning.
Andy Hopson added: “The band are very dedicated and want to go far in the music business. They write their own songs as well as covering other people's songs, but making the covers sound like their own.
“They have already made one demo CD and they are going to the studio again shortly to do another one. Hopefully the new demo will be submitted to record company and possibly a record deal could come from it. I am a big fan of their music!
Paul Glendenning, Assistant Entertainment Manager at Southport FC, said: "The previous rock nights held have been very successful and we expect this to be the same. The Grandstand Bar holds 150 people and we hope to fill it."
“The proceeds from the events go to very good causes. The money from the last events went towards sending Southport FC kits and football boots to Uganda and this year it is going to another excellent cause.
“Dominant Species are a very talented group of musicians. They designed and produced the posters and signed up all the bands performing. They have worked very hard at organising this event.
Entry to the event is £3, with all proceeds going to Southport, Formby and Ormskirk Diabetic Children’s Club. For more information, visit http://www.myspace.com/livemusicsfc
