Festival of Music set to start

The Arts Centre will play host to a wide range of talented musicians, singers and actors when the Southport Music Festival starts on Sunday.

During the week there will be competitive classes for singers, pianists, instrumentalists and for speech and drama.

On Monday there will be the prestigious Piano Concerto competition, with competitors coming from both The Royal Northern College of Music and Cheetham's School of Music.

On Thursday evening there will be a competitive concert for Barbershop choruses. All classes will be adjudicated by Professional Adjudicators and in the case of the vocal classes accompanied by Professional Pianists.

Each day is made up of three 3-hour sessions.

The week culminates with the Grand Final Concert which is made of a exceptional competitors during the week.

There is also a competitive element to this concert when the adjudicators will select the best vocalist, instrumentalist and drama performer, each of which will receive a £50 bursary with the winner receiving the Kenneth Spofforth Bursary, worth £250.

Tickets for this concert will be available from the Arts Centre box office during the festival week at a cost of £5 for adults, concessions £3 and children under 18 £1.50
