Just Panic

By John Siddle on Jan 3, 08 05:32 PM

We all have our secret musical inclinations - bands we love, but would never 'fess up to loving.

My first favourite band was 90s soft-rock has-beens Counting Crows. They're utterly brilliant, yet I don't tell many people some podgy white-yet-with-dreadlocked-hair 40 year old is my idol.

It's the same with genres. I pretty much despise punk as it is today. Local bands trying to re-invent the God Save The Queen wheel makes me cringe.

Punk should have been left behind when society changed...well, that's what I thought 'til I heard Southport band, Just Panic.

Just Panic wowed a packed Cafe Matisse on Saturday, December 29, on a bill that also featured Cherno and Fragment.

20-year olds Frank (bass/vox), Ste (guitar/vox) and Alan (drums) formed whilst at KGV college to create a unique style of punk rock - that is to say melodic not brash, yet still intense.

Relentless writing, rehearsing and gigging secured an EP deal with New Home Records, whilst they won Southport's Battle of the Bands early in 2007 - securing a download deal with iTunes.

Just Panic play The Shakespeare - formerly WD Suttons - on Scarisbrick New Road, on January 24, 8pm, before playing a string a dates across the north of England.

Let me know what you think...Southport's new hope?
