Rock Paper Scissors
ROCK Paper Scissors have been doing a fine job of late coercing non-local bands to play shows in Southport.
Armed with the intimate settings of Cafe Matisse, and a loyal music-loving fanbase, these young promoters are quickly establishing themselves as a tour de force for live music in the town.
On Friday (December 7), they bring in bands touted in NME, Q and Uncut as 'the next big things'.
The night's only unsigned band, but not that should it should deter you. Kill The Captains sound like Sonic Youth playing at a school disco
Here are some nice things the music press have said about their forthcoming album, which came out in October:

Doors open at 7.30pm, and entry is £2/£3 depending on your success at the obligatory game of rock-paper-scissors on the way in.

There are no talented musicians in Southport get a life and go into the real world - or just get proper job.
Well, surely hats off to Cut Out Promotions for endeavouring to bring in bands from outside the area?
I concur that bands in Southport are not of the quality Martin 'Hovvers' Hovden would have you believe, but nevertheless I'm sure there are diamonds in the rough.
Take Gomez for example...they were just another KGV College band once upon a time.
And when I play Rock Paper Scissors on the 21 Dec, there'll be a Southport band that played a national music festival last summer; The Netherlands.
Oh so you must have a record deal then?
Gomez started like every band that makes it; eager, dedicated and perseverant.
They were afforded a big break...quite out of nowhere.
What's to say another Southport band won't soon follow?
